The US Pacific Fleet has released a statement confirming that one sailor has died today following an incident yesterday in which the nuclear submarine, the USS San Francisco, ran aground. The sailor's name has not been released
The USPF said that the submarine has suffered some external damage but the nuclear reactor was intact. The USS San Francisco is slowly making its way back to port under observation. 24 sailors were injured in the incident.
Lt. Adam Clampitt of USPF said: "When the ship arrives back to its port, there will be an investigation to evaluate the extent of the damage. Anytime we lose a shipmate it's a great loss."
