Baghdad Deputy Police Chief Killed

Deputy police chief in Baghdad, Brigadier Amer Ali Nayef , has been shot dead outside his home in the south of the Iraqi capital. Nayef’s son – who was also a policeman – was also killed in the attack.

The two had been on their way to work when the shooting occurred. Militants in Iraq have escalated attacks on government and police officials in an attempt to have Iraq’s open elections delayed or cancelled.

They are due to be held on the 30th of January.
