People's Choice Awards: Passion and Fahrenheit Triumph

The Peoples's Choice Awards, chosen by US public voting, have seen two controversial films taking the top awards. Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ took best film drama, and Fahrenheit 9/11 took the best film award.

This year the public could vote online for the first time, and twenty-one million votes were cast this way. "To me, really, this is the ultimate goal because one doesn't make work for the elite," said Gibson. "To me, the people have spoken."

Other winners included Julia Roberts who won top female movie star, Johnny Depp became the favourite male movie star award, and Shrek 2 was named top film comedy and top animated film.
