Germany's Right Wing Parties Suffer Blow for Next Election

The NPD and the DVU, two extreme right political parties in Germany, had planned to join forces for the next German national election in 2006. These plans have suffered a blow.

The SPD Bungestag delegate, Sebastain Edathy researched the plan to find out whether the parties could legally enter joint lists of candidates for the election. Germany's election laws prohibit having more than one party on an election list.

The German constitutional court declared letting candidates from more than one party on the same voting list as unconstitutional in 1990.
