World Health Organisation Confirms Measles in Sumatra

On the Indonesian island of Sumatra 2 separate cases of the measles have been confirmed amongst the tsunami survivors. The World Health Organisation considers a single case of the measles an outbreak because it is one of the most contagious viruses.

Over a thousand people were quickly vaccinated against the virus in an attempt to stop an epidemic.
Unicef had already started a campaign in the area to vaccinate 600,000 people as the cases were reported.

Three to five percent of children who catch measles in the developing world die from its complications.
