For the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Dodge has unveiled a rear-wheel-drive Dodge Charger which has a 340-horsepower V-8 Hemi engine. While other automakers pursue hybrids, Dodge is going back to the 1960s with muscle cars.
To save fuel economy by 20%, a multiple displacement system can switch off four cylinders when the power of the V8 engine isn't needed. This process takes 40 milliseconds. A long hood and short rear deck gives the Charger a muscular look.
The estimated value so far is between $25,000 to $30,000. Other automakers are also counting on high performance vehicles like the Ford GT, Pontiac GTO, and Cadillac CTSv. Drivers who prefer high horsepower will be pleased.
