Guy Womack, the defense attorney for Abu Grhraib prison guard Charles Graner, presented Monday's opening arguments before a U.S. military jury.
"Don't cheerleaders all over America form pyramids six to eight times a year. Is that torture?"
"You're keeping control of them. A tether is a valid control to be used in corrections," he said.
"In Texas we'd lasso them and drag them out of there."
Graner could be imprisoned for seventeen years for mistreating detainees, dereliction of duty, and assault. He has entered a not-guilty plea.
