CBS Fires Staff Over Bush Guard Story

Four employees of the CBS television network have been fired in the aftermath of a controversial story aired by the network which claimed President Bush had used family influences to avoid serving in the Vietnam War.

An independent report stated that the network had been driven by a "myopic zeal" when breaking the story which aired on the popular and influential show “60 Minutes.” Also, it aired at the height of the election campaign.

The controversy after the report caused “60 Minutes” anchor man Dan Rather to resign from his post. The four employees who were fired include the report’s producer Mary Mapes and three CBS executives.

  The documents...

were never proven to be real or proven to be forged.
Dan Rather is not stepping down because of this, either. He was retiring anyway.

AND, the right wing nutjobs are the most gullible. They elected Junior, didn't they?

  shouldn't it be?

Actually, the documents were proved to be phony. One of the major clues was that they contained subscript, something that was not possible with the manual typewriters that were said to have been used. As for Bush, despite how the liberal media portrays him, he is a good prez. The document scandal is just another example of how the left uses propaganda to attack someone’s credibility (another example would be Michael Moore)
Finally, although CBS said that Rather stepping down had nothing to do with the documents, they could have been lying. According to a recent article by drudge, an executive was quoted as saying “CBS staffers were shocked Monday when CBS president Les Moonves suddenly tied Rather's upcoming resignation to the phony document flap, a departure from CBS's official storyline” Hope this clears things up :-)

  it should be

lose your freedom if you betray it..the way CBS did. What a joke for accurate news. Thats why I called him Dan Blabber.
Fox News! Fair and unbiased.
Their new motto should be Fox News. The truth. lol

  @crank & Lucifer....

This has nothing to do with criticizing the government. When reporters falsify documents and try to use them to give a false report, you should expect any credible news source to fire them. At least I hope they would.

How can we go to war....

Over lies and no one is held accountable, but a few people write something and all hell breaks loose.

Wasnt it so much nicer when Clinton was President and we didnt have to hear clowns throw around "Liberal Media" like its a bad thing... It was always the "Freakin' Conservative Media". It didnt matter what was going on the only thing they would report on was Ken Star and who was under Clintons desk... Oh how times have changed. Anyone else think Dubla's tappin Condoleezza Rice too?

Weve got 1 discredited report and still no one knows where Dubya was.... But then he must have showed up for drills because he was honorably discharged, right?

  sigh

However it happend, Kerry went to Vietnam and fought.

Bush stayed safe at home in a guard unit, and didn't even stay a full term of duty -- so that he might serve on a Senatorial election campaign, no less; he deserted.

That said, this is wholly irrelevant on either side as it applies to their capabilities for the presidency.

I think Kerry was weak.

I think the Democrats are irrelevant.

But so long as the Neocons will breathe life into phantoms so that they continue their activities with an appearance of "bipartisanship," we will have fallacious charades like this carried on in front of us...

Remeber about the media; classroom, etc:

It's not the power to "give all your own answers;" that's not necessary.

That's not even real power, it looks phony that way.

The real power is in framing the questions.

The newsmedia uses this sickeningly well, perversly even.
