London Mayor in Row Over Islamic Cleric 'Tsunami' Remarks

London Mayor Ken Livingstone has just issued an 80 page dossier in which he defends last years hosting of meetings with Islamic cleric Dr Yusuf al-Qaradawi. In the report he said that virtually all claims previously aimed at al-Qaradawi were false.

Unfortunately for Livingstone, the Islamic teacher has recently been quoted as saying that the Asian tsunami disaster was bought about by Allah to punish tourists for alcohol and drug use, along with "acts of abomination".

Livingstone commented that despite not agreeing with all al-Qaradawis comments, dialogue with Islams "liberal wing" was important. Others say that the mayor should not stand up for a scholar who advocates violence, including wife-beating.

How about also freedom of expression,

what is i advocate beating of anyone who,s online name starts with a J?

Im all for freedom of speech and expression but there is still a moral line.

Trust me I seriously thinking of killing someone soon for beating his wife and locking her in the house all day but doing that is it then legal if i say "freedom of expression"?

The same should apply to speech

  Funny
I'll bet the same exact people who think the Philadelphia lockup of four Christians who were exercising free speech is totally justified would then turn around and say that this Islamic priest has the right to spew hate about Jews and others. Double standard, anyone?

  Kind of presumptuous there...
...especially since I have no idea what you're talking about! :P

  Hardly Presumptuous
I made a reference to the blatant hypocrisy found on the left, and in many people here. Comments like this about Jews causing the tsunami would be defended as "free speech" by the same people who have called conservative opinions as "hate speech," despite those opinions being nothing of the kind.
