Prince Harry made the front page of The Sun with a Nazi uniform that he wore to a fancy dress party in Wiltshire. "Colonial and native" was the theme of the occasion that he wore his swastika armband to. Jewish groups in the UK are not pleased.
A statement on Prince Harry's behalf reads: "Prince Harry has apologised for any offence or embarrassment he has caused. He realises it was a poor choice of costume." Prince William reportedly wore a lion outfit to the party.
Reform Rabbi Dr Jonathan Romain says the apology should be accepted given Prince Harry has realized he made a mistake. The Board of Deputies of British Jews is also happy he apologized.
That seems as offensive as the Nazi uniform. I think, if they are ever to be perceived as modern, they should reject any reminders of British Colonial barbarity, and their German ancestory.
In fact, scrub that... line them up against the wall.
This prince is an embarrassment to our species. I just had a thought that maybe Edward VIII left it and Harry found it but that would be giving Harry way too much credit.
the royal edict of leaving the princes alone and not subjecting them to the standard UK tabloid stuff has done a WONDERFUL job of teaching them about responsibility...
oh please guys, anyone living in childhood like that just sucks, you have a great urge to do outragous things because its forbidden. Anyways i can think of a lot worse things than that, don't judge his character on some costume even if its nazi. Its the past.... its not like he supports the idea of nazis.
Until it becomes illegal to do so (I’m sure that’s coming eh Blair?) he should be able to wear whatever the hell he wants at a *fancy dress party*. Wouldn’t catch me apologising just because some scum paparazzi made a few bucks with a picture not meant for outside eyes.
Gee, I seem to remember an old concern expressed that the 'royals' inbreed excessively, resulting in diminished mental capacity? Do you suppose it applies in this case?
The same people who would "fight and die" for someone like a homosexual to spew hate and lies about Christians and call it "free speech" want to kill or lock away someone for exercising their freedom, despite how tasteless. Hypocrisy runs rampant around here, that's obvious to see. I guess the liberal motto is fast becoming "anything I don't like is hate speech. Anything I do like is free speech." It's a shame you can't see it.
For the record, no one on the left said there should be censorship. (or the right either) I think most are commenting on how much of a dumbass the guy is than anything. Why every thread becomes a freedom of speech issue is beyond me.
No points for imagination Harry. A Nazi costume is an obvious choice for a colonnial / native party. Why people even bring it up in a controversial context baffles me. No doubt it was a subject of amusement for him, so why should people take it as an offensive action?
First of all, it was a f**king fancy dress party. That's all.
Secondly, it's jews bitching about it because that's all the seem to do these days!
Anyone would think the Jews were the only ones locked up in death camps but that's far from truth, the truth is.. they're the only ones anal enough to bitch about something so petty so many years on.
he was in a complete Nazi uniform. If he would have been walking around in full Nazi garb sporting a panzerschrek, then I could see why some people would take interest.
I went to a fancy dress party and this guy went as a Nazi SS Officer, full leathers and everything, he looked fantastic, everyone commended him and he even won the prize!
If i want to dress up as a nazi for fancy dress i sodding well will, I wont have a bunch of whiney liberal bitches, or cry baby jews telling me otherwise.
on channel4 news, they asked if he was wearing a roman costume, would everyone be so upset? they were pretty bad as well! but noone would mind. are we suppose to remember the lessons learned about nazis, but not about slavery and empire?
finally people who are thinking the same. i agree entirly. It's a storm in a teacup. Even veterans are saying we need to forget it and move on. No offence but it's just silly over sensitive politically correct people who don't like anyone having the slightest bit of fun, never had a childhood and would say they have made few mistakes and none like this in their life. but thats just my opinon...
He's a 20 yr old guy, forget he's the prince for a second, he's young and foolish like most 20yr old guys. If it were anyone else there would be no fuss.
Like the princes left their costume selection too late and got stuck with a poor choice. Obviously they didn't use their royal lineage, or available funds to hire their costumes, seriously - a poor lion and a poor nazi costume? Probably all that was left.
In any case, 6 times as many Russians died in WWII than Jews, do you hear them whining about it on and on?
Is not a Nazi symbol in anycase (God knows why they used it). It is far older than most relgious symbols (MUCH MUCH older than the cross for example). It is a Pagan symbol (though may have been used by other religions too). The word Swastika (or Suastika) comes from the Sanskrit words meaning "well" and "being", hence this symbol is a sign of 'well being'
