On February 19, 2005, "Jerry Springer-The Opera" will end a run which saw 610 performances. An estimated 398,000 people have seen it performed at London's National and Cambridge theatres and 2.4 million watched it on BBC 2.
The show is not yet over with a UK tour of the production starting in October and opening in Manchester. It is not known if the opera will make its way to Broadway or if the current cast will go on the UK tour.
Fundamentalist Christians who protested the show's airing on BBC 2 (as reported on SN) are filing a lawsuit against the BBC. Meanwhile creators Stewart Lee and Richard Thomas are in Germany working on a new opera about a London comedy club.
