United Airlines See Vietnam Passenger Growth

United Airlines is the first US carrier to operate a service to Vietnam since the war ended in 1975. "Business has been better than expected," Joe Mannix, United's Vietnam country manager, told the press a month after the service started.

"We expect growth in the realm of 12 percent per year in Vietnam," Mannix told a news conference. The carrier flies from San Francisco to Ho Chi Minh City.

Approximately 1.5 million Vietnamese live in the United States and state media reported yesterday that it is expected that 120,000 will visit Vietnam during the February Lunar New Year festival.
