Iraqi Militant Group Declares War On Terrorists

A militant group calling itself Saraya Iraqna, unheard of up until now, has declared itself at war against the militants in Iraq. A newspaper called Al Ittihad has reported that the group is to fight all terrorists currently operating in the country.

"Our activity will not be selective. It is directed toward all terrorist organizations on the territory of Iraq, no matter what their religion or ethnic origin is” states Saraya Iraqna in a published message.

People who co-operate in the bid to stop terrorists are being offered USD 3,000 to USD 50,000 in rewards by the group.

  Are these?

Are these the "Iraqi Death Squads"? I don't see how else they would have that kind of money.

  @vg

Probaly are. Anyone with that kind of money you can pretty much bet was on Saddam's bumchum list anyway, so it's gotta be coming from elsewhere.

Are they finally committed to freedom?

Is this nationalism at last? Is this the first tenuous movement toward Iraqis buying their own freedom, not anarchy, with some blood and tears not shed by others?
Remember, it is always a tiny minority that is the engine of liberty. Such was the history of the painful birth of the U S and other places of true freedom!

  50 Grand???

Where does a group get that kind of money to incentive their work? I'd be curious to know the source of their funding.

  If you look....

at history, many small groups were funded by larger groups to do things. In the American Revolution, the French were more than happy to give the colonists cash to fund the revolution because it took some of the English pressure off of them in Europe. Same thing here. the Americans offer cash to the people to solve a problem that is bugging them as well as help the people take back the country from a bunch of so-called "freedom fighters" that are killing their own people.

  Goodbye Iraq

"...no matter what their religion or ethnic origin is"

This would have to include the invaders that have killed tens of thousands of innocent Iraqi men, women and children too would it not?

 by: vizz   01/13/2005 10:16 PM
sigh, you only have to look back a couple decades

To know that the USA funded and supplied the militant group that sent the soviets out of Afghanistan. They're pulling the same trick here in Iraq, fund Iraqi militants in the same form as a terrorist organisation, to wipe out the other terrorists. I suppose from their (the USA) perspective its the only way to sort out their mess, although it goes against the moral codes and international laws, i would imagine.

  and also..

It takes the burden of unavoidable civilian casualties away from the USA and places it on this US-controlled group.

 by: The_Paladin   01/13/2005 10:35 PM
Yep, of course its organized by the US

Its even stated here in a news article on Short News. I have to laugh at how gullable the Bush admin thinks we are.

Pentagon Planning Iraqi Death Squads
The Pentagon is currently considering the option of creating, training and advising squads of Kurdish Peshmerga militiamen and Shiite combatants to kill rebel Sunni leaders and their sympathizers in Iraq.
"What everyone agrees is that we can't just go on as we are. We have to find a way to take the offensive against the insurgents. Right now, we are playing defense. And we are losing," a Pentagon insider has told Newsweek.
The project is called "The Salvador Option" - adequately named after the Ronald Reagan death squad strategy used to battle left wing guerillas in El Salvador during the 1980s.

  It was bound to happen...

Many of you small minded individuals always think in black and white. There are more partys here than just the U.S. and "the muslim world". You have a minority of Sunni terrorists inviting foreigners in and killing mostly Shiites and causing many Shiite deaths. It was bound to happen that the Shiites would get pissed enough to fight back since they seem to be losing alot of their family members to these terrorists. The Kurds also have very good reason to fight. The enemy of my enemy is my friend sort of thing.

But you never mind all this as it actually takes a small amount of thought. Just do what everyone else does and blame the U.S. It's so easy...

  well...

i think it could be a good idea, it might not solve the problem completely, but its a start. You can't blame them for trying something different when the current solution isn't working well. Plus i think having non-uniformed and a non-stationary amry is the best idea, because they are harder to target and can't just blow up people/trucks to wipe out a platoon. Last thing...money does the works.... don't you guys remember how saddam's son's were caught?

 by: SpOoKy187   01/14/2005 02:18 AM
And this despite saying no "death squads"

The US **administration** are completely full of shit. First they deny planning involvement of death squads and then all of a sudden a new Iraqi militant groups appears.

And the language they use, like 'fighting "terrorists"' blatantly shows their US-leaning rhetoric.

They're insurgents, not terrorists... and they're rebelling against an occupation that has them living in terror.

Still what else could we honestly expect from this administration.. nothing.

when you pay the locals to hand over terorists

When you pay the locals to hand over terrorists, they hand over anyone they can lay their hands on .... take a look at what's going on in Cuba . Most of the "terrorists" there were handed over by the Northern Alliance who got huge cash pay outs for every suspected terrorist they could pull out of the mountains ... result a load of people who did nothing wrong except being in the wrong place at the wrong time and then they have to spend two years on the other side of the planet having lit ciggies pushed into their ears by American soldiers .....why because the Northern Alliance can screw even more money out of these "loaded yanks" who will pay us to hand people over ... this sort of crap doesn't work .... the rule of thumb that "terrorism" is when they do it to us but when we do it to them it's "counter terrorism" or something else but not terrorism also applies here the good old American double standard .
And another thing, why hasn’t this story appeared in the media more. (has this been covered in the Us mainstream media ) because if it hasn’t Americans should wake up to the fact that their Administration is about to embark on international terrorism in their name …. Something that should be taken quite seriously as this sort of activity breeds hatred for America which sooner or later will cause repercussions and who’s going to pay the price, Joe American innocent civilian going about his life paying for his Governments foreign policy.

  More US sponsored death squads

IMO they don't really stand a chance, the Iraqis have already demonstrated their capability by wiping out entire units of special forces and using the weapons they confiscate to hunt down the bigger fish.

This article made me laugh a bit, the CIA is at it again to break the morale of the Iraqis and desperately gather some intelligence to hang on to dear life, but it seems the Iraqis are more organised, more fierce and even leave their calling cards behind. Judging by their harshness when dealing with spies within, the CIA had to set up a *new* group, whcih will melt away just like all the others. I guess Iraq doesn't have a Northern Alliance like Afghanistan, except for those pesky kurds, who are an endangered species as it is.

I find it interesting that the US government went public about this group, that is like signing their death certificates before they have even died. :-D

If it were just a militant group killing terrorists, i might believe it, but there is no way a pro-US side can get either the weaponry OR the money to finance this. The only way is through funding, and common sense tells you that comes from the forces inside that are struggling (duh), which means the USA and probably the UK helping out, its pretty damn obvious, and they know they will get away with it because who's really going to stop them?

 by: The_Paladin   01/14/2005 04:10 PM
  Maybe

its the US funding it like Reagan did for the Contras in the 80's, getting the money by illegally selling arms to Iran. Nothing would suprise me.

  Distinguishing marks?

How will these opposing groups be distinguished one from another? Apparently few of the rival parties bother to wear uniforms in that anarchistic melee? My impression is that they are only united in their purpose of self-destruction of all hope for a future.

It's well established that only a tiny minority of any population has genuine concern for the well-being of a people or ethnic group. That's why representative republics always triumph over universal suffrage democracies.

 by: Luhker     01/14/2005 11:33 PM
  Well the plan is....

For them to all kill each other and in the meantime we in the West get much reduced casualties so we win both ways.
