eBay Sellers Protest Rate Increases

"Basic eBay Stores" runners now have to pay a monthly fee of $15.95 which is up from the previous fee of $9.95. The 10 day listing fee is also rising from 20 to 40 cents. eBay sent an e-mail to sellers outlining its rate increases.

eBay seller Lynette McDonald says: "It seems as though the larger eBay becomes, the more greedy they become." She is considering shutting down her eBay shop which has sold Barbie and baby clothes since 2001.

Many folks, including senior citizens and rural residents, say eBay gives them a supplemental income which will be cut short by the rate hikes. eBay reported earnings of $805.88 million in the first 3 quarters of 2004. Its shares just fell $4.12.

  I submit

That if they get too greedy, people will migrate to another Ebay-equivalent service.
