Scientists: We Are Seeing Less of Sun

Scientists have conducted sunlight measurements for five decades and are concluding that less solar radiation is reaching the Earth. Pollutants are being blamed for this phenomenon which has been dubbed as "global dimming."

Pollution is said to be altering the properties of clouds; thereby making clouds more reflective and sending more sun rays back into space. Some say this may have been a factor in the African droughts of the 1970s and 80s.

An alarming conclusion is our climate may be more affected by global warming than it was during the ice age when increased CO2 levels led to a 6 degree Celsius rise in temperatures. In 2010, the UK could be like N. Africa if temps continue to rise.

A fine posting, but source contains ...

... alarmist nonsense! It's well known by scientists not in the dark [;-)] that the output of the Sun has varied considerably over the centuries since Creation less than 10,000 years ago. These sun-stroke victims masquerading as scientists don't even have extensive historical data to support their foolish assertion!

in the dark!? That's genius, m'boy!

Ah. I suddenly have faith in humanity- that we'll stop polluting, clean up our act, and stop killing each other for no reason.

Just a few more new generations of our descendants growing up watching the planet fester under the onslaught we've wrought and they'll become (and not by choice) radical enviornmentalists. That is, if they aren't sterilized by industrial pollutnants.

.. sunshine in my eyes can make me cry.....!

"Creation less than 10,000 years ago" = nonsense!

Blah, blah, blah, sunspot cycles, wack, wack, wack... and then "Creation" - why do I bother answering?

Yes radiation has fluctuated. But I believe the scientists in question have considered many factors on top of that ;) And how about the fluctuations in CO2-levels the last 350,000 years? See: http://www.alexrosen.net/ the Industrial Age explosion cannot be accounted for by the natural variations.

  I hope you two...

do not own a car, or use electricity in your homes, or fly airplanes, or pretty much anything modern. It seems you are just as much of the problem, do something about it or quit bitching....

We can still do all these things, we just need to find cleaner ways of doing them. We have companies that make millions or billions of dollars each year, but aren't required to install pollution dampers on their factories because of ridiculous "grandfather" laws. There are already much cleaner fuels available than jet fuel, but the air industry doesn't want to invest the money required to make cleaner airplanes. I'm sure you're aware electricity can be acquired from the sun and the wind and the water just as easily as it can be acquired from burning fossil fuels.

Let's just pray that the Earth runs out of fossil fuels before we can burn enough to damage the planet past the point of recovery. And Luhker, I am talking about praying to God, so no snide comments, please. (It is possible to believe in God and believe that we were appointed to be stewards of the Earth, not destroyers of it.)

My point is, humanity isn't backed into a corner on this. We have options, but sacrifices will have to be made. The people running energy companies might have to settle for 7-figure annual salaries instead of 8 figures. They may have to let a few yachts sit in the harbor instead of buying them. It will be a painful, difficult transition for the super wealthy, but as members of the other 99.9999999999999999999 percent of the Earth's population, we should probably begin demanding it.

We are taxing the planet and giving the bill to our childrens children.

I'm activly assisting the extinction of the human race by not propogating the disease.

Case of too much faith or nonchalance

Its two things - either the people of today have too much faith in things 'working out' or simply don't care. I know it is a case of the latter (because most people are honestly rather stupid) - I mean really, with the average man having enough problems getting out of bed and dealing with whatever their daily job throws at them and then issues with the wife, who cares about anything thats happening beyond their own backyard?

Course a creature like that is hardly going to last a very long time either - personally I dont have too many hopes of the world remaining as it is 'during' the lifespan of the next generation. If it isnt a natural calamity, its definitely going to be a man made one the way the world is going. Enjoy life while it lasts - and this is from a glass is half full guy. I dont even want to know what a pessimist would think.

Most of us probably didn't deserve the world as it should have been anyway, right? If you think everything will be 'just fine', I wonder what you are.. an alcoholic (and blissfully drunk), a junkie (and happily high) or just plain stupid - its one of the three.

  Something is amiss

Why do half the scientists say that the UK will be frozen over and half say it will be really hot (ignoring the abstaining scientists on the payroll of the US Government)?
