"Tsunami Baby" Claimed by Nine Mothers

 

A baby boy, covered in mud and bruises from the Asian tsunami, was rescued and taken to a hospital in Sri Lanka. Nine women have now come forward, claiming to be the boy's mother. The hospital needed to call the police after violence erupted.

The case is not a one off, approximately 1000 children have been orphaned by the tsunami, and around 40% of Sri Lanka's dead were children. When a child is found desperate parents looking for their child turn up.

"Parents who have lost their children come every day to check," hospital doctor KR Saseenthirian, said. "Some go back, and some stay and claim that the baby is theirs." This case will go to court, "If the court asks us conduct DNA tests, we will..."
