Agassi Takes First Round Despite Hip Injury

Former world number one Andre Agassi has advanced to the second round of the Australian Open today, despite a hip injury which almost made him withdraw from the tournament (SN reported).

Agassi convincingly beat German wild card entrant Dieter Kindlmann 6-4, 6-3, 6-0. Agassi decided just yesterday to take part in the first grand slam of the season, after he damaged hip tendons in an exhibition match.

The American has lost just one game in his last four appearances at the Open, losing to Marit Safin in last year’s semi-final. Number one Roger Federer has also advanced to the second round.
