X Files to Return to Big Screen

Cult TV show "The X-Files" is to return with one final blockbuster movie.

The movie is due to be released next year and involves supernatural goings on but no aliens, David Duchovny, who plays Agent Mulder, revealed.

David Duchovny remarked it will be a "It'll be a stand-alone horror movie."

X-Files is good and all but
Would it work well with out aliens and seperate from the series?

  It should be pretty good
I used to be a huge fan of the TV show, and I think the show started losing it's greatness when they focused too much on the whole alien conspiracy thing. Hopefully they won't screw it up.

  It got awful tbh
During the first few seasons they had non stop great one of shows. The freakshow one, Coombs, the inbred family one.

Cracking stuff, then it turned into a shitefest, an alien hit man running around, boring aliens, meh utter rubbish

hopefully this film will touch on the earlier shows.

  all depends on the writing
i don't know that the x-files as a name is going to get people all that excited any more; maybe they should bring back some of the great writers they had. glen morgan and james wong have continued to write some killer scripts, most notably 'final destination.'

  Don't use the X-Files name..
And this is from a big X-Files fan..well I used to be until Chris Carter lost all integrity by extending the series when it should have ended two to three seasons before it did. Milking it for money when they had basically covered all the stories they possibly could have. Final series without Mulder? Pathetic.

Since X-Files 'fever' is long dead, the film should not use the X-Files name but obviously the fact Mulder and Scully will clearly be in the film info/trailers etc will allow people to see these familiar characters but not get stuck in the trappings of a series that has gone past its sell by date. Basically - a catchy name, a good story and script and they could have a hit, especially since people still like Mulder and Scully - just are tired of the same ol X-Files tripe. A seperate horror movie with the two is mouth watering if it works that way.

  too late
It's far too late to start making a new x-files film, it had it's day long ago so it should be left to rest in peace now.

  Irony
The funniest thing about this whole idea is that David Duchovny destroyed the X-Files. I am in no way insinuating that his acting is crap, but his pursuit of "greater glory" left the creators no other choice but to replace him.

First they had to move the show's location so that he could be closer to Tea Leoni. Then he needed more money. Then he needed a break. Then, after coming back from like 3 months of leave, he quit. Then when he realised that he couldn't make it on his own, and came crawling back two seasons later and the producers actually accepted him back, they ruined it trying to fit him back in "OMG I'm not really dead it was all a conspiracy haha!".

I won't watch this movie, and I was an avid fan of the show for quite some time.
