American Intelligence: China and India will Rival US by 2020

A panel from the US National Intelligence Council has released a report in which they predict 15 years of global change and re-balancing, including the emergence of India and China as economic rivals, or successors, to the US.

The Indian film industry, known as Bollywood, is likely to out-strip its US rival Hollywood, the report says. Arab countries will be faced with the stark choice of reform or die, it adds.

It is believed that democracy, taking a lead from Iraq and Afghanistan, might begin to take root in neighbouring countries. There is strong emphasis on the shift of power and influence eastwards, with even Korean pop singers having success.

  Using Bollywood as an example

is terrible. Bollywood is for other indians only, it has minute appeal around the rest of the world.

Whereas Hollywood is for the rest of the world, not just Americans.

Eh? What you talkin' 'bout? Bollywood is one of the 'in' things in the UK:

" Quoting 2003 figures of British Film Institute, the High Commissioner said, 54 Bollywood films grossed 8.1 million pounds at the box office compared with 8.2 million pounds from 29 British movies.

"When it comes to foreign language films shown in the UK, Bollywood is way ahead of the rest of the pack," he said.

In 2003, 54 Bollywood movies made 8.1 million pounds, while 25 French films grossed 2.8 million pounds, seven German films 2.4 million pound, two Portuguese films, including 'City of God' from Brazil 2.4 million pound and 10 Japanese films 1.3 million pounds, Hall said.

I skimmed over the article so maybe I missed it but how does Bollywood compare to Hollywood in the UK?

At the present time Hollywood dominates all western film-making, but the popularity of Bollywood in the UK is on the increase and I can well believe that by 2020 it'll be a strong rival. Bombay Dreams is incredibly popular (its playing on Broadway and the West End of London as a stage production) and thats just the tip of the iceberg. Last year in my town they filmed parts for a series of Bollywood movies all in one go (watching their budget I suppose). The whole Bollywood thing is great, if you like a REAL film (none of your Arnie-type action stuff here).

Democracy in Afganistan - this report is a joke

Karzai's power doesn't even strech outside the captial Kabul, the Taliban run most of the country again. It's pretty clear they're using force-fed newstainment facts, and not real data. Be interesting to see where else they have made such erroneous assumptions.

'However, Russian and Central Asian countries could slip backward, the report said.'

Russian countries? What Russian countries are these? Russia is not an empire, y'know.... unless you count Kalingrad as a country.

har-umph! National Intelligence, my ass.

those two words together : american intelligence...

And, yes, america, there is a whole world outside your borders... and this world also knows how to make movies, and everything else.

  about bollywood

I'm an Indian that was born in the US. And I can say with full confidence that Bollywood movies will never have the popularity Hollywood has. And t-strimp, Bollywood is by no means "more real." Many many times, the action in Bollywood movies make Arnie's movies look like Physics documentaries. Bollywood has pretty much 2 genres: love and crime underworld. I've seen enough Bollywood movies to make this judgment. Although, I will admit, the best Bollywood movies are damn good.

You are kidding rite?? I mean i sure as hell hope you are lol. I am from Jersey and indian movies are pretty darnnn popular here in the tri-state area.( its only a matter of time till they get popular elsewhere)

You clearly havent seen enough bollywood movies lol.
1) There is a lot of them that convey other messages.
2) Most of the new C grade bollywood movies are a sleezee fest lol (no love )

Think you should watch more of them before you make another post:) lol jk

Granted I haven't been to the movies in a while but I don't think that the USA makes Arnie style action movies anymore. That was left behind in the previous century.

By the popular comment, I meant amongst other ppl besides brown ppl. Obviously, brown ppl will always love Bollywood.

Besides that, most good movies were way back in the days from like 50's to 70's. Those had varying themes and messages. Since then, most movies have been complete crap. The ones nowadays all have the same story in some way, shape, or form. I would say about 1 out of about 30 bollywood movies is worth watching at this moment.

"I would say about 1 out of about 30 bollywood movies is worth watching at this moment"

And how many films does Hollywood produce that are absolute sh*t? A similar amount I suspect. Just look at the reviews for Alexander, plus go to the bottom shelf of your video store and watch some of the crap that you find there. For every good Hollywood movie there must be at least 30 that completely miss their target.

  shrimp is right

they don't really make Rambo and Last Action Hero movies anymore. In fact, I think Last Action Hero may have been just that. The action movies we have now come from China with badasses like Jet Li. The last action movie to be made though, which was really good and quite recent, The Chronicles of Riddick. Although probably gay, Ven Diesel is the closet thing to an action hero that Hollywood has anymore. As for Bollywood ever reaching Hollywood, no, don't think so. You guys talk about it taking ground in your areas, but you probably think that because you watch the movies. There is no Bollywood scene where I live in the Midwest and while it is growing (you start to hear more and more references or news articles about it) I'm sorry, it will never reach the level of Hollywood. Chris Rock: "You know how they say never say never. Well I'm saying never."

Democracy shouldn't be a public activity

Democracy is indecent and inferior in every way. It should never be permitted public expression. Like picking your nose, it should only be done in strictest privacy, if at all!
