Execution Process of Thai Prisoners to be Broadcast Live on Internet

The live internet broadcast of the build-up to the executions of a number of Thailands death-row prisoners is to commence, despite objections by Amnesty International. It is hoped that the broadcasts will prevent further law-breaking by others.

Over a 1000 inmates are facing the death penalty in Bangkoks Bangkwang prison and the cameras are ready to roll. "The internet will show how we treat the convicts in their last minutes, including the preparation process." a Corrections Chief said.

"But at the time of execution, the viewer will be allowed to see only part of the process." Several years ago a similar scheme was set up at a prison in Maricopa Country, Arizona but it was later abandoned following a court ruling.

Amnesty International should be an oligarchy

I seriously wouldn't mind living under their rule.

So, the Thai haven't seen enough death lately?

What's more murder going to accomplish?

  Where oh where

is Ammesty International when terrorists behead defenseless innocent people. Where oh where is Amnesty International when homicide bombers blow up commuters who were just going to work in Israel. Where oh where is Amnesty International when innocent people are dying. Why do they need to stand up for thugs and killers? Any oligarchy would be a disaster. Much less one ruled by Amnesty International.

  @tomblik

Is Amnesty International a liberal organization? That would explain the bleeding hearts for criminals and ignoring the victims of terrorists.

  it'll upset the al-qaeda terrorists

now they'll have to compete with Thai executions online. I wonder what sort of creative ways they'll come up with next to do that?

  Oh?

I think the title AMNESTY defines their philosophy. There is no act that anyone can commit that should not be forgiven.

I disagree with them. However, if they were honest in their philosophy, they would be defending the Americans and Brits accused of autrocities against Iraqi prisoners.

Oh?

I wonder when people will realize

…that this kind of thing does not work. We constantly see the Nazis on Short News bay for blood when a crime is committed, hang ‘em flog ‘em etc. Perhaps these people can try to stretch their thinking just a little here.

There are countries in the world where prostitutes can be beaten and/or stoned to death. Death by machine gun for possession of pot. Caning for vandalism, whipping for blasphemy. Hands and feet cut off without anesthetic for stealing. Torture for speaking out against the government. Even here in the good old USA we still fry people in the electric chair. But despite all of this terrible inhumanity we visit upon the ‘evildoers’ they still exist. No matter how horrific the punishment, criminals still break the law. People still commit murder knowing they could fry for it.

So at what point are we going to accept that barbarism begets barbarism. If it is okay for the government to seek revenge by severe punishments why is it not okay to seek revenge against another who wronged you. Some of the safest countries in the world with some of the lowest crime have some of the most liberal justice systems in the world. How about we try and learn from that and realize that for every government sponsored murder that is streamed across the internet there is a serial killer out there excited by their latest snuff movie.
