Biological ADHD Test Developed

Researchers have unveiled a 10 minute biological test for the diagnosis of Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). 65 children aged between four and six have been tested with the technique, and it proved to be 93.1% accurate.

50% of the children were known to have ADHD, and the test involved the children wearing special goggles while being asked to follow spots of light on a computer screen. The eye movements were recorded and compared.

"Children with ADHD show large difference in eye movements compared with normal children," Giorgos Pavlidis at University of Brunel, UK, who led the study said. "Children as young as three years old could benefit from the test."

Caroline Hensby, of the UK's ADHD support group, Adders, welcomed the research, saying the test could be a valuable addition to current testing procedures. "It would give sufferers a lot more confidence in their diagnosis knowing that they had actually taken a biological test, as opposed to just talking to someone - it would make the diagnosis more legitimate.
"Also, it's very difficult for someone with ADHD to sit down and concentrate for two hours - the length of current test period - so this short, ten-minute test would be far better."

  This is good news...

Hopefully it will sort out the genuine sufferers from some who use it as an excuse and give them a bad name. I believe I saw both going through school. Now if they can only improve the treatment of it...

  this is GREAT news.

not only will it give legitimate ADHDs some verification, and sort out the ones using ADD/ADHD as an excuse, but it will also clear children who don't have ADHD and save them from some extremely harmful unwarranted medicating.

some schools have begun handing down ADHD labels to every kid who's bored in class or not challenged, and threatening to have them taken from their parents if the parents won't get them on meds. it's easier to have a class of drugged zombies than to actually pay attention to kids who need it.
