Amid fears that islands are tilting after almost 200 aftershocks following the Indian Ocean tsunami, residents of the Andaman-Nicobar archipelago are fleeing in their thousands. Rising sea levels and high tides are also causing widespread panic.
Earthquakes of a magnitude of up to 6 continue to be felt and the Indian navy is reporting higher than normal sea levels and rough waters. Members of the The Geological Survey of India have been called in to examine the areas topography.
Despite the turmoil, the good news is that the islands are seeing a reduction in population which environmentalists say is greatly needed. 250,000 is said to be the ideal number of people to live there but twice that amount currently call it home.
