President Bush was sworn in for a second term today. He pledged to work to unite a country divided by the war on Iraq among other issues. Bush also promised to advance democracy abroad. He briefly mentioned his domestic agenda as well.
Speaking from behind a bulletproof shield, and after putting his hand on a bible and repeating the oath of office given by the Chief Justice of the US, bush sent a message underscoring the importance of US allies.
Several "counter-inaugural" protests were staged, including an anti-war march. Along the motorcade route, hundreds of protesters chanted and waved anti bush signs.
