As America Online sees less people subscribing to its internet service, it is investing heavily into a search engine aligned to its web site with the hope that more hits will generate more revenue. Its niche will be how it groups search results.
The search engine brings results in "snapshots" which deliver a wide array of information on things like current events, movie showtimes and sports stats. The engine also allows people to narrow results to specific topics.
An example of this is the search for "eagle" asks a user if he or she wants the football team, the bird, the band or other options. AOL is also working on a partnership with Google by using Google's index for search results and having Google ads.
