e-Waste is Growing

US and corporate officials have been tracking the amounts of electronic waste (dubbed e-waste) and are reaching alarming confusions. If current trends continue, Americans will discard 400 million electronic units a year by 2010.

Much of e-Waste is classified as hazardous because it contains carcinogens like beryllium metal and lead as well as neurotoxins. These materials are making their way into the air and waterways of the nation.

40% of lead in landfills comes from e-Waste. The US used to send most thrown out electronic products to China where it was scrapped. Now calls are being made for an e-waste recycling strategy to counter this ever growing problem.

  Im Guilty of this crime

But buying a new printer that comes with ink, is cheaper then buying a new ink cartaridge. Lexmark sells printers for as low as $27.00 and ink is around $50 to $70? Whats a person to do?

Don't you have those cool refill thingies for ink cartridges? I know a few people who use those, and they are usually about the price of a new ink cartridge, but they refill about 8 times. Don't know how they work, don't use them myself.

  eWaste?

Honestly, what a confusing name. Spam is e-waste. This stuff is physical. But, I think that it will eventually come to a peak and level off a bit. I really don't think shipping all our crap to clutter up China is a particularly stellar idea, anyway. It should be recycled so that it can be used to make more stuff.
