Suprnova Releases Bittorent Mk. 2 to Public

The creators of Suprnova, the website who, along with others, were hunted down last DEcember by the Motion Picture Association of America, has released a beta version of the successor protocol to Bittorent - Exeem.

The new peer-to-peer filesharing network is vitally different to its predecessor Bittorent in that it has no central tracker - the weak link in the system which allowed the MPAA to persue the owners of tracker indexing sites under copyright issues.

The company developing Exeem is called Swarm Systems and operates off-shore. It says that it has no control whatsoever over what files get transferred using Exeem and the MPAA have yet to comment, although they are aware of the recent developments.

  The way I see it

new protocols will always be coming out... The authoroties really cannot put this phenomenon to rest unless they put an end to Broadband internet connections, and that's not happening anytime soon.

  Spyware?

If you read the license agreement completely or just scroll down to the bottom of it during install you will find that the has the embedded product CYDOOR in it. If you dont want this on your system don't install it.

  Yup...

I installed it. CYDOOR did come up on microsoft spyware + adware. I am not too worried about it. The program seemed to run pretty smoothly at first. Download speeds were good. Only thing I didin't like was that my computer slowed down a signifigant amount. I am going to only run exeem and see if it was actually exeem.

Shareaza still has more content at this point.

  lots of innaccuracies

before i start, if you want a version without spyware go to exlite.com which is eXeem without spyware.
anyways the source article is wrong about alot of things.
The first one about the relationship between eXeem and suprnova. exeem is _not_ the succesor to it. The only relation they have is that after suprnova went down, exeem hired Slonek (suprnova founder) to do some marketing for it. Another thing is that they state that exeem is decentralized. That is not true because when you start up the client, it connects to an eXeems server first before you can do anything. Also, eXeem isn't the successor protocol to bitorrent. Its just uses libtorrent and modifies it to their own needs and is closed source.

  Beware the jabberwocky

with claws that rip and teeth that bite.

Part of the huge uptake of bittorrent is that it is an open standard, that can and has been implemented on a number of platforms. Being open, it could be vetted for illicit activity and proven to be clean.

Two things about this i dont really like:

1) I don't trust anything that installs 'spyware' without saying "Adware Supported" on the box.

2) I don't trust software that can be used illicitly, that is not open source.

For example, Shareaza is now completely open source, you know its not up to anything underhanded.
