Ohio State University researchers found a sex chain of 288 students at a Midwestern high school. This means one student in the chain may only have intercourse with one other student, but is indirectly having contact with 286 other students.
While most of the students in the chain were not promiscuous, they would be surprised by the links. Study author James Moody notes the chain did not loop back which he compares to an incest taboo. His team shows educators need to address STDs differently.
Moody says: "All the evidence from this network suggests that the kids were very aware of the local pattern and local history of sexual activity. They know they are not going to date their ex-boyfriend's girlfriend's partner. That's too close."
