Baby less than 1kg - Emergency Caesarean after Assault

A 27-year-old woman, seven months pregnant, has had an emergency caesarean after suffering a brutal assault at the hands of a 38-year-old intruder in her Brisbane home.

It is alleged the man repeatedly hit the woman with a baseball bat and golf club, at least once across the stomach. The woman was rushed to hospital with a broken leg and arm, and several fractured ribs.

Doctors were required to deliver baby girl, weighing less than one kilogram via emergency caesarean. The 38-year-old offender will face court on charges of attempting to kill an unborn child, along with several other related charges.

  @ b4u
"A pregnant woman should always have someone with her."

So its her fault because she was on her at home?

Thats a crazy way of thinking!

I don't think b4u was saying that it was in any way her fault, he just made a comment that a pregnant woman should always have someone with her... no matter how impractical it might be...

  thats sad
how could anyone live with themselves after doing that?

  I Agree With B4U
She shouldn't have been alone. I'm not saying it is her fault, but a pregnant woman should always be with someone. And not just because of this, but she was seven months pregnant, what if the baby was going to be premature? Or if the mother fell or any number of hundreds of things where a pregnant woman might need help. I'm just sayin that if I was married and my wife was pregnant I'd want someboday around just to help her out in case she neeeded the help, worst case scenario, she doesn't need the help and she has good company.

  understood
but does that mean that that person has to be physically right there the whole time or just a quick phone call away? Seriously, have any of the people who have said a pregnant woman needs to have someone with her all the time ever been pregnant or had their wife/gf pregnant? Unless you've got a relative who's just sitting around with nothing to do, it's impossible to have someone there with her 24x7
 by: sjava     01/25/2005 06:52 PM
  might be nice, but...
it's not always possible to have someone around 24/7. most people have work to do. few young families can afford to hire someone to be there all the time. many women work through most of their pregnancy. finances are an issue. many people live far away from their families.

and frankly, if someone had been shadowing me throughout my pregnancy, i'd have been giving birth in prison after going nuts and pushing my 'babysitter' out a window. :D pregnancy doesn't turn a woman into a helpless dainty little mama.

the only person at fault in this case is the guy who broke into a home and assaulted the woman he found there.

  More details...
Too bad there weren’t more details in the source story. Who was this person in relation to the victim? Was he the father? Did he even know her? Does he just hate pregnant women? Why would anyone do this to another person, pregnant or otherwise? As for having someone with her all the time that is the most ridiculous thing I ever heard. If this is your way of thinking then all of us need to have a 24-hour bodyguard. This could have happened to anyone. I don’t know about the rest of you but I happen to enjoy a little private time to myself.
