Volunteer Vacations - Scientific and Humanitarian Vacations

Organisations such as the Earthwatch Institute and Habitat for Humanity offer connections for volunteers to plan vacations for various projects ranging from scientific field research, to humanitarian programs.

Habitat for Humanity's Global Village Program offers building projects in various international destinations; no experience in building is required. Earthwatch's project vacations include field work like archaeological excavations.

In some cases, expenses incurred for such vacations are tax deductible. In 2004, Earthwatch vacation project costs ranged from $800 to $3500 ex travel expenses. In 2004, almost 3,500 people took part in Earthwatch projects in over 40 countries.
