China fears that the worlds tallest mountain might be shrinking. A recent survey concluded that the peak had dropped 1.3 meters (4ft) due to global warming. The actual height has been a long controversy.
Mt. Everest was first measured in 1850s by China, however in the 1950s India recalculated with a more accurate result of 8,848m tall. U.S scientists used GPS technology to measure in 1999 adding 2 meters to the height.
But today the melting of glaciers on the mountain due to the global warming is believed to be causing the mountain to shrink. China will remeasure Mt. Everest in March.
