The UN’s children’s agency has stated that they have 40 confirmed cases of orphaned children being recruited by the Tamil Tigers from welfare camps and towns in the north and east of the Island of Sri Lanka.
The majority of the recruitments took place from the area of Trincomalee and the UN have stated cases of children as young as 13 have been discovered.
UNICEF has said that they are continuing to monitor cases of child abuse in the region and expressed deep concern over the recruitment of children.
