Boys Arrested for Stick Figure Drawing

A 9 and a 10 year old were arrested for drawing stick figures of certain classmates, depicting them being stabbed, with names and initials under them. Another showed some hanging with others below them.

Police carted them off in handcuffs, charging them with making a written threat to kill or harm another person, and also the school suspended them as well.

The parents have stated that this should have been taken care of by the school and the families, not by the police.

  @ richjournalist

School officials have been getting ignorant ever since the Columbine incident. This is just one example. There have been many more. One kid was hauled off by police for having scissors in her purse.

  What the..

Maybe school made a right choice for taking action against violence but...
Police? Suspended? Handcuff? 9 and 10 years old?

  omg what the hell...

when i was 10/11 i drew violent pictures too...
i loved guns and robots and stuff...
they need to relax, the kids related the pictures to things they know.

:( tsk tsk tsk

Where do they get the tiny cuffs?

At 9 and 10 they have such puny wrists, should fall right off.

And they wonder why kids fear the police, and fear leads to hate.

  well thank GOD for that

I for one i know i was crapping myself at the notion of one of these boys drawing a stick figure of me with a sword sticking out of my head, in fact i'd be having nightmares.

Jesus... The real criminals in Ocala Florida must be lying back on sun loungers, laughing and sipping beers
"Thank god our Police Department are retards! Cheers!"

  Wow strangenezz

The kids obviously need a little talking to about what's acceptable and all, I can understand the school maybe sending them home (It probably upset the other children seeing themselves dead and stuff) but handcuffs?

Who arrested them, Tinkerbell?

  The bad thing....

is that these same parents that thought the law shouldn't be involved would be the first people to ask "Why wasn't there more done to protect our children? There were clear signs and nobody did anything!" if these kids had ever acted out these pictures. It's a lose lose situation.

  my 2 cents

It might have been a little extreme but you have to look at other things that have gone on at various places around the country with elementary students bringing guns or knives to school and using them on other kids. They should at least have a psych evaluation to make sure it wasn't just 'kids being kids'.

  hate crimes

Maybe the race of stick figure people could have the boys charged with a hate crime too, and be compensated for their hurt feelings. After all, we want to stay very politically correct, don't we now?
btw that was sarcasm....

The reason for the action and reaction

as both occured is the nature of the institution and situation in which they did.

Schools as they are presently operated are largely prison environments where control, not freedom reigns.

"Or else they can't learn; it would be CHAOS" -- well, freedom is on the whole chaotic, of course; individually; it is magnificent; emminently economical, and the most just and simple social solution anyone has ever dreamt or more importantly, acted upon and realized.

Learning as a process consists of the non-interference of the powers-that-be, and inborn curiosity.

If the children in question are so dense that you need beat information into their heads; they weren't going to be worth the effort anyway and in all probability would not long from then DARWIN themselves.

So the "but the idiots can't compete" [then] arguement is hollow as the Tojan Horse. They couldn't compete ANYWAY, and won't be able to for the foreseeable future (I state it as such because one day, perhaps fortunately, there MAY BE a cure for stupidity.)

In any event, when you run a prison, people are bound to act as though they were prisoners. Profligate sex, rife diversionary idiocy... violence.

These occur and are encouraged in tyrannies. Well organized, free people which is to say, freely organizing (the strongest only true type of social organization being freely-assembling;) do not need these outlets, or need them so frequently or so heavily.

Their every-day goings on give them the social energy and allow them to release it more healthily. Or seek an environment where that is more the case.

Containment making for violent thoughts and tendencies is nothing new. Those animals which could not be safely (and hence, widely) domesticated are resigned to Zoos and wildernesses.

People with violent tendencies, unironically, find themselves in more contained environments. It's a cycle, and it is self-reinforcing.

The cure is freedom. And death -- you can't save the truly lost without loosing yourself in the process.

Justice comes at the hands of would-be victims more rightly and sooner than it ever will from stone and motar.

I don't advocate Babylon, but I won't see a replication of the British way, either; to assist the criminals in abusing the abused. I want justice, and Courts turn it up too late; too sparcely.

Ahem. Free the children. These places often do no good for them, or insufficient good to justify their continued existance and the children's mandatory attendance.

This is why violence occurs and these sorts of trends and tendencies happen.

Containment breeds a culture of violence, and conformity. End the "schools" as such, end the violence.

  need a better art teacher

Florida is becoming a weird violent place

The cops have been using tazers on students there recently. The cops are whacko.

Me smell lawsuit!

Hey, whatever happened to the kid that was suspended for pointing a chicken-finger at someone? What about the 6 year old arrested for assault after he kissed a schoolmate?

They need to chill out.
