China Bans 50 Video Games.

The Chinese government news agency has announced that 50 video games have been banned from being distributed in China.

"Command And Conquer: Generals" was banned for the portrayal of the Chinese military and a terrorist attack on Beijing. Numerous Vietnam war games like "Conflict Vietnam" and "Vietcong: Fist Alpha" were on the ban list as well.

"The Sims 2" and "FIFA 2005" are among those being banned. All the games have been banned for 'presumable content'. The Government states it was "to protect intellectual property rights and create a good environment for Chinese youth."

Generals - yes... Sims - why?

Can't wait til Bush decides that this type of action is against freedom (which, of course, it is)... and after invading Iran, South Korea, and some other unfortunate countries, we try to take on China... TRY being a key word there

SOUTH Korea?? I hope you meant North Korea..
I'd be interested in knowing why a game like FIFA2005 would be banned there, esp. in light of the fact that they were supposed to host the Women's World Cup this last year...

  read the source....

Fifa was banned because it's pirated. Same goes for sims.

The list of 50 games is made up of either games that are pirated, or games that corrupt the mind (or are politically unacceptable)

  fifa

was banned not because of piracy, thats the worst excuse i have heard yet... it was banned because china and taiwan are considered seperate countries in the game, and since china still comsiders it part of china, it is subsersive to the message they are trying to enforce to the pliebiens(sp?) of china of their great power and controll

  NOOO

I can understand them not wanting their youth to be corrupted with pathetic social values (like in the USA) although China is only banning games for political reasons I think.

But banning Generals?!?! How could they?? That's like the best game known to man! Hell, with the Chinese army in that game I took over Baghdad (user-created map), set up an impenetrable fortress and crushed the rebels! Fun!
Actually, I'm surprised USA didn't totally ban RA2 for its portrayal of Russia invading USA (man that was fun).
