Norwegian Teenager Owes Music Industry $15,900 for Linking to MP3s

A Norwegian teenager has been ordered by Norway's highest court to pay the music industry $15,900 because his Napster.no web site offered 170 free MP3 files between August and November 2001. This ruling upholds a lower court's ruling.

The student said he made the web site as part of a school project. It has no relation to the company Napster. Music industry groups are pleased about the ruling. His site provided links to MP3s that others posted online.

A lower court originally ruled that the student was not liable because he only provided links to material that others were pirating. The highest court determined that showing people where illegal music was is "abetting" illegal acts.

  93.529411764705882352941176470588 per song?

That being the case. (93.529411764705882352941176470588 X 7363) = 688657.05882352941176470588235294. I better start saving my pennies =(

Wonder if a $93.52 mp3 sounds better than those piece of crap $.99 ones?

 by: treyjazz   01/29/2005 06:08 AM
  $93.52.... unbelieveable!

The crap the music industry churns out these days isn't even worth 93 cents!

If you link to a contraversial site under this idea you could be classed as terrorist. Off to jail with you...

  Heh Google

Not only does Google not link directly to mp3s, but it doesn't link directly to mp3s as a direct endorsement of thievery.
