Leroy Wells, who entertained American Idol judges Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul with his crunk-style audition, watched himself on TV from a jail cell. The Alabama 22-year-old was arrested earlier this month for assault and firing a weapon.
Wells, who turned in a performance Simon Cowell referred to as "ridiculous," is also shown by records to be awaiting trial on drug charges. He plead guilty last year to marijuana possession and in 2003 to disorderly conduct.
He auditioned in New Orleans last summer, cavorting onstage and describing his job sandblasting paint at a shipyard.
