Elderly Woman Dangles From Open Drawbridge

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla - 79 year old Helen Koton was walking across a drawbridge and soon found herself hanging on for her life when the bridge opened and left her dangling from it. She did not hear any warning signals when the bridge opened.

According to Ms. Koton, she she grabbed onto the railing when the bridge opened and held on as the bridge reached it's full height. There she remained dangling until motorists alerted the attendant several minutes later.

The attendant lowered the span which caused her to fall on her face, bruising her forehead and nose. Brian Scott, the bridgetender's supervisor, declined to comment further other than to say the incident is under investigation.

  of course you would
 it's the American way

quite simply, check the safety equipment. Raise the bridge, if the lights flash, etc. than it's the old woman's fault.. she's 79, she lives in Florida, it's a good bet she's a 1/2 deaf, 1/2 blind retiree who just missed all the warning signs

  @sjava
 Okay, you could be right, but on the other hand, all of this bridges are man controlled, with monitors active to see any activity on the bridges, the alarm rings, the operater pulls the switches, now who is at fault?

  they're automated to an extent
 pull a lever to raise the bridge, as soon as you do, the alarms go off, the lights flash, etc. it's all tied into the pulling of the lever/pushing of the button..

  priceless.
 She must have been hauling butt to get to the top of the drawbridge... she couldn't tell it was becoming a steep incline! I would love to see footage of this incident.
