The US Senate is set to debate the ramifications of a law that would prevent underage girls from going out of state for abortions. Some girls do this to keep it a secret from their parents and/or escape state parental notification laws.
Opponents say this punishes girls whose parents will beat or evict them for becoming pregnant. The bill is aimed at those who drive the girls out of state and is titled the Child Custody Protection Act. It gives a year's prison as a penalty.
The House has approved this bill 3 times but it never made the Senate. Now it is on the Senate GOP's Top 10 priority list of bill Senate Republicans want passed. 32 states have parental notification laws.
