North Korea Steps Up Rhetoric

On Saturday, after Washington refused the communist North Korean governments demand to hold bilateral talks to curb the building nuclear tension, the North Korean government urged its citizens to rally around leader Kim Jong II.

Rodong Sinmun, a daily state run newspaper that is mandatory reading for all North Koreans dedicated its entire front page to an editorial that said "the single-minded unity serves as the strongest weapon" according to officials from KCNA news agency.

The Thursday declaration that North Korea has nuclear weapons for self defense has been followed with a surge of communist rhetoric that seeks to boost loyalty and inspire a sense of crisis.
