The Toyota Motor Corp. announced yesterday that it will be building a new assembly in Shushary, Russia. Consumer demand for cars is growing in Russia and Toyota announced that the new plant would reflect that.
The plant will be open in December 2007 and will produce 500,000 cars a year, according to Toyota’s senior managing director for Europe and Africa, Tokuichi Uranishi, who also said that most of the cars produced would be Toyota Camrys.
Uranishi said: “Showing other companies the real success of Toyota, we hope to create a favorable climate for… investment in the Russian economy, which will lead to… expansion of the automobile market and development of the auto industry in Russia."
