“Highly Critical” Flaw Found in Netscape

Internet security firm Secunia has announced a highly critical flaw in the Netscape Internet browser which could allow hackers to execute their own malicious code by causing a buffer overflow. Netscape 6.2.3 and 7.2 also contain the flaw.

Secunia rated the flaw as highly critical because Netscape have failed to offer a patch for the security hole. The company recommended that Netscape users turn to another browser until a patch has been issued.

  Nets....WHAT?

I'm surprised to know they are still in business...I stopped using Netscape a LONG time ago. Like many others, I turned to Firefox, and have never looked back.

Firefox is based upon the same source code as Netscape. So, essentially you are still using Netscape without all of the useless bloat and bells & whistles that AOL added when the bought Netscape several years ago.

  I didn't realise either

I've only heard of Netscape in the past tense for the last couple of years. It was my original browser but I gave up on it because of constant crashing. Switched to IE then to Opera which I use now =)

Thanks, Reporter...I am well aware that Firefox is based on the same engine used in the later versions of Netscape. Nevertheless, when you compare for instance a 17MB installation (of a buggy unreliable, memory guzzling browser) with a 4.3MB install, the better reliability and up-to-date bug-fixing that firefox is offering, they dont seem to similar any more, do they...

Firefox is superior to all rivals at this point.

It may not be perfect, but it outperforms all the alternatives I've tried. I quit Netscape years ago for reasons including those already given.
