A chef who had been bitten twice by a spider hiding in a crate of bananas took a photo of it, believing it to be harmless, using his mobile phone. Little did he know that the arachnid was in fact a highly venomous Brazilian Wandering Spider.
Soon his hand began to swell up and he experienced dizziness so he made his way to hospital. He was sent home again but collapsed and was quickly readmitted. Medical staff had no idea what they were dealing with until the chef mentioned the photo.
After consulting nearby Bristol Zoo, doctors flushed out the spiders toxins with a saline solution and the victim was discharged. The spider was later found where it had landed after biting its victim - in "suspended animation" in his freezer.
