A Lake County, FL Little League volunteer has been charged with child abuse after witnesses say he slapped a 9-year-old boy to the ground twice. John Veldhuis, 62, is a volunteer concession worker at Susan Sports Complex.
9-year-old Connor Urbon and friends were roughhousing after a Monday night game when he accidentally struck Veldhuis with a piece of ice. "I realized right there and then that I had hit him. I said sorry. He came at me. He just blew up" says Connor.
Veldhuis chased Connor, striking him on the head and knocking him to the ground twice before fleeing the scene. Valdhuis was apprehended later Monday night. Connor says he learned a lesson. "Don't play around with ice and don't mess with old people."
