Three Houston, Texas area men are suing the Pope over a letter he wrote while he was a cardinal. Then Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger said, "cases of this kind are subject to the pontifical secret." The three men claim this is evidence of a coverup.
The men were 11, 12 and 13 at the time of the attacks and their molester was expelled from St. Mary's Seminary and moved to Columbia. The molester was indicted before a grand jury. Police are now trying to get him to returned to the U.S.
The pope was added to the lawsuit, before he became pontiff, because of a letter he wrote in May 2001. U.S. law says heads of state cannot be sued. The Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston and Archbishop Joseph Fiorenza are the other defendants.
