ALTON, Ill - Fisherman Tim Pruitt found that the catch of the day was no small fry. The man snagged a blue catfish weighing in at a staggering 124 pounds. The catch is a new world record.
The state record was only 85 pounds and the previous world record holder weighed in at 121 pounds, eight ounces. Pruitt's fish was officially weighed in the presence of conservation police officer.
The results of the weighing and measuring will be sent to the International Game Fish Association, at which time the record should become official. The catfish was measured at 58 inches long and 44 inches around. It took half an hour to reel it in.
