TORONTO, Canada - Prince Edward Island, located on Canada's east coast, will soon close it's 24-hour suicide hotline. As of June 1st, suicidal persons may call only during regular business hours of 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday.
The new hours of operation have angered the many of the county's mental health groups. Officials at Prince Edward Island state that it is too costly to run the operation 24-hours a day.
Joan Wright of the Canadian Association for Suicide Prevention stated, "How many times, when you get upset or worried or concerned about things, is it in the middle of the day? It's usually at 3 or 4 o'clock in the morning when you wake up."
