“Birdie” Kim Wins U.S. Women's Open

"Birdie" Kim made a spectacular birdie shot on the 18th hole from the bunker to win the U.S. Women's Golf tournament at Cherry Hills Village, Colorado. She gave herself the nickname "Birdie" to keep her from being confused with the other players.

Kim finished the tournament at three over par and took home $560,000, the largest purse in women’s golf. “I can’t believe it. I don’t think I was going to make it. I was trying my best to make par,” she said.

Annika Sorenstam struggled and finished at a 12-over 296. This was the first time in four years that she finished over par in a 72-hole tournament.
