NASA Announces Comet Explosion

NASA has announced that it plans to blast a hole inside a comet on the 4th of July this year, allowing astronomers to study the inside of a comet for the first time. The hole will be about the size of a sporting stadium.

The “bullet” will be a wine-barrel-sized probe released by the Deep Impact space craft. It will, hopefully, leave a crater in the comet large enough for astronomers to explore the comet’s core and possibly learn more about the solar system’s origins.

Scientists are unsure exactly what affect the explosion will have on the Earth’s night sky, though they do predict that it will cause the comet to be 40 times brighter, which could make it visible to the naked eye.
