GM Upset over Chrysler's TV Ads

General Motors Corp. is riled up over TV spots by DaimlerChrysler AG's Chrysler Group featuring Lee Iacocca. Iacocca says, in the ads, that Chrysler vehicles retain their value better than GM-made cars and trucks. This has GM fuming.

"We strongly disagree with the claims made in the current Chrysler advertising regarding the projected retained value of its vehicles compared to GM," said a GM spokesman. "We are exploring various courses of action and have expressed our concerns.."

"We stand by our figures," said a Chrysler spokesman. "It's ALG data, it's been substantiated." Chrysler says it won't change the ads and says their claim is based on data from Automotive Lease Guide, an organization that sets resale values.

  do something about it!

i got a chrysler and a GM...and I rather drive the Cirrus anyday over the sunfire (malibu took up too much gas...)

The cirrus and Malibu were the same year...and the cirrus would have gotten me a lot more money back

Of all the GM or Chrysler cars...

I think the 300c is the best bang for your buck...it looks like a Bently, has a nice powerful motor, large amounts of space, and an awesome interior. I think the resale value will be better for Chrysler because people seem to take better care of their Chrysler cars then the GM owners (atleast in Kentucky).

  All domestics suck

Personally I will take German engineering or a rice over a domestic ANYDAY. Domestics are plain out made cheaply, and fall apart all the time. I will agree though, GM's are the worst for this. I have never seen any other manufacturer make such crap in comparison.

My dad bought a 2000 Venture and owned (at the time) a '95 Accord. In the time my mom had to replace her brakes once, my dad replaced the brakes 3 times on his Venture. That's pretty sad. Yes, the cost of repairs may be more on imports, but in comparison with the frequency of repairs on domestics, I would much rather buy an import.

Also, GM has yet to prove to me that they can make a vehicle that has something that every other car manufacturer doesn't. They especially seem to be lacking in the alternative fuel dept. (ie. Hybrids, Diesel, etc) It seems that every year they release a new model, it just seems to be the same crap with a different name.

I know 6 people that have had Cavaliers.....

And the brakes have all but failed on all of them but 1. My cousin went under a dump truck. My friend had to drive 100+ miles with 1 brake working out of 4. Cheap crap cars!

It is not bragging when it is true

I had 2 Chevys, both of them went thru brakes 3 times, both them started to fall apart with in 3 years. I have bought a german car, and I have went thru 4 Mass Air Flow sensor, 3 of them under warranty, and 1 I had to replace my self.

  It’s pathetic!

They both have resale value half of Nissan Honda or Toyota and they have an argument about who has the worse one! No wonder they make these junk cars. My last American cars were Plymouth Valiant and Buick Century 85. I feel like I had enough fun.

  "German Engineering"

I drive a C-Class mercedes benz, and have worked on Japanese and some Domestics... There is absolutely no comparison between the build quality between the Germans and everyone else. I mean the 'real' germans, BMW, Mercedes, Porsche, and to a lesser extent VW/Audi.
My benz is the most bulletproof vehicle I've ever driven. It's not just well built, it's designed intuitively. The engine pay is as simple as humanly possible, while in domestics and JP cars you'll find a hornet's nest of wires and tiny little vaccuum tubes. There's just less high-tech garbage under my hood. It's a pure and simple engine, and a pure and simple vehicle. Parts may be expensive, but in 20,000 miles of owning this car there has been absolutely no unscheduled maintenance. Everything just works. My transmission may cost $4000, but I don't have to replace it every 2 years. My friends have gone through 3 transmissions (and engines!) on an F350, and 3 transmissions on a pontiac bonneville. Such pieces of trash when it comes to worksmanship.
