A 22 year old man is facing criminal charges for having sex with a minor in Nebraska, even though his 14 year old wife is legally married to him under Kansas law.
The teen became pregnant at 13 and is now 7 months into the pregnancy. With her parents consent the couple legally got married in Kansas, but Nebraska does not recognize the marriage so the husband faces up to 50 years in jail for sexual assault.
The Nebraska attorney general branded the husband a pedophile and ridiculed Kansas law as ridiculous. Despite this both families believe there is nothing wrong with the legal union and feel that nothing can be gained by prosecuting the husband.
That states had to accept marriage certificates, and drivers licences from other states (note im not from the USA just what i have read) therefor they could not legally prosicute him? I would persue this I was in that situation, seems to be a breach of federal law? Considering that also states that any man can have sex with his wife as a basic human right.
just throw them in jail...forget that they may be happy and BOTH families think they should be together...damn what the couple wants, its the states priorities over anyone elses. Who cares if he had sex with her before they were married (although that is freaking sick) that happened in Kansas not Nebraska (or so I gather). Therefore their marriage is legal in the eyes of the law in any state, as all states recognize others laws (as far as marriage, drivers license and so forth).
Granted I think it's wrong for them to be married, as the girl is so young and hasn't experienced love or life yet, I can't change Kansas law and side with them on the fact that they are in the right as far as the law goes.

The parents I bet are 100% against the pregnacy happening. Most parents though feel that if you get their daughter pregnate, you must marry her. Her parents are probably just extreme traditionalists.

Now...about the potential jail time he will receive....If he was married after she got preg., then he should be facing some jail time. I think we all know that was a "shot gun" wedding. I don't think he should get any though..because that kid will need a father. BUT, he should be BANNED from poking her again till legal age and Kansas will have to close up that nasty marriage law they have.
He should have to register as a sex offender...
Counciling...mandatory. In fact...family counciling.
Probation...a good number of years. If he does ANYTHING wrong during that probation...LOCK HIM UP.

its gross yes, but who knows the situation or whats acceptable in that part of the world. as far as legality is concered if the state had any brains 1. they would have stopped it before it started, and if that wasnt possible, 2. dont let them get married, once they allowed marraige its done as far as im concered even in another state..

Actually look it up, I did read it during the many hunam rights debates on here, thought it was comical. But yes, unless you have commited a crime (thus incarcerated (sp?)) its illegal to be prevented from having concensual sex with your wife. Thats why if you read most laws regarding age of concent it states 'if both parties are NOT married to each other then .... law details'. I dont agree with said law, but thats up to the states people to change, not me.
Yes, I said legally he is. If he had sex with her in Kansas, legally, he should be extradited there, as no crime was committed in Nebraska. If the state can prove the deed was committed in Nebraska, then they have a pretty good case. Since they were married in Kansas, whatever sex they had in Nebraska afterwards, was legal.

Is not really that this relationship is taking place. After all they got married legally. My concern would be laws still in the US that allow children to marry, but adult gay people cannot marry. I'd say it would be far more sick of me (aged 31) to marry a 14 year old child, than it would be for me to marry a man of my own age (assuming I was (A) not already married and (B) gay).
