On June 29th in White Plains, NY, Philip Granted, 43, stabbed Concetta Russo-Carriero,56, to death in the Galleria Mall parking garage.
In a taped hearing, Granted claimed that he was fighting a 'race war' and that he killed her because she was white. When questioned Grant stated, "All I knew was she had blond hair and blue eyes and she had to die".
Because of his admission, the trial will be tried as a racial hate crime. Instead of receiving a possible minimum sentence of 15yrs to life, he is now eligible for a minimum sentence of 20yrs to life.
and it was a white killing a non white, the white would be charged with first degree murder and be slated for execution. of course, since it was a black killing a white, he gets a lesser charge.
and i'll bet the naacp will be backing up this peice of filth because he's 'been oppressed by whitey'.
Where does it say that he's being prosecuted for anything less than first-degree murder? Seems that he's being prosecuted as any racist would, and you're just trying to make this issue racially divisive.
There was a study that was done several years ago that showed that whites where far less likely to even be brought to trial in comparison to minorities and when they were, they more often than not, given lesser sentences. Mainly on the idea that whites are generally percieved as being 'redeemable'.
As for getting life for a white person killing a black, you're off on that one to. In fact it's VERY rare for a white person to receive either a life sentence OR the death penalty. To put in perspective for you, its somewhere around 10%.
For blacks is the other way around. The majority of blacks on death row, for example, are there for killing a white person. The average is actually over 90%, almost 100% in southern states.
And what states use capital punishment the most? The conservative states? So I am assuming that most of these ethnic people on death row are on death row in conservative states? Why, yes, that is most likely true.
All those god-fearin' ultra conservatives out there, keeping America's heartland alive, and preserving the country by making sure every last ethinic person who commits even the slightest crime gets the book thrown at them... The same idtiots who elected our dufus president.

to add on to your last commment...basically every minority supports democrats historically. Main reason was civil rights.
Traditionally white christian men and rich men support Reps. Everyone else tends to support Dems.
The reason why Bush is in office is...just a nasty possible scandle beneath the surface. But on the surface it's because simply whole churches went to vote this time...Reps got their voters out.

While it may have been a bit off the immediate topic, mentioning where it is most used is certainly relevant when the death penalty issue comes up - and it is most used in southern, conservative states. Bush, too, is likely to come up, because Texas executed MANY people when he was governor. In that, what was said was not terribly tangential, nor was any of it untrue. Is that the real issue here?

Yes, that's what he said, but no one has provided proof of this nor is there any indication this man was treated any differently than a white racial killer. THAT was the point of his argument, but since this guy did admit it was racially motivated, they threw the book at him just as they would anyone else and there is no unfairness to be seen. However, the previously mentioned claim that blacks are disproportionately given the death penalty for the same crime doesn't help this point. Unless you have some numbers to show that blacks get off more often somehow when the crime is suspected to be race related (as opposed to when it's not or overtly so), your claim just sounds like a talking point.

While I think Kerry was a poor choice, to say that was the sole reason is to ignore the dirty tricks, the appeals to religious groups and single-issue voters, and all the election "irregularities" surrounding the last election. I'd say the Dems spinelessness and bland candidate were only about 35% of their problem, at best.
does anyone have a link to how many blacks as apposed to crackers were given the death penalty, in the last 10 to 15 years? Maybe a link that proves that southern states are more likely to give blacks the death penalty? I truely agree over all of history, but if you try to look at just the last few years, I am curious about the outcome.
